Guest Testimonials

Had a great time!  A few blueberries were out and tasty.  Love Ocean Vista Cottage and its hominess. Carter's Beach felt like being down south.  My 2 year old daughter loved running around in the garden and playing on the beach.  Fireplace was cozy!

Can't remember a vacation when we were less ready or willing to pack up and go home! Bay Bluff Cottage is a fabulous cottage and a truly beautiful setting. We have been so comfortable and happy here. Although we have lived a total of more than 60 years in Nova Scotia, we had never truly appreciated the beauty and variety of this part of the south shore before. Thank you so much.

We had a lovely stay at Peace and Plenty with spectacularly clear nights. The was a new moon so you could see the Milky Way and rain horizon to horizon. I haven't seen so many stars in years

This place is incredible-"AH-MAZING!" The beach was beautiful, perfect for walking, soccer, golf, sand castles-something for everybody. We went for many kayaks around the lake and the ocean. And, of course Sanderling Beach House was a dream. We all enjoyed the colorful fiesta dishes-especially my dad who completely fell in love with them! It is very kind of you to share the slice of heaven with others.

Description

This classical Italianate-style Victorian home was built in 1889 for a prosperous Blacksmith. Beautifully restored, this “Painted Lady” features ornate architectural highlights, a grand entranceway complete with sweeping staircase and stained glass window. Hardwood floors, a sunny breakfast nook, comfortable living and dining rooms complete the perfect picture.

The house has four bedrooms - two with queen size beds and two with single beds (two in one bedroom and one in the other). The Master bedroom features antique bedroom furniture. There are two four-piece bathrooms. The upstairs bath has an old-fashioned claw foot tub.

A stone’s throw from the harbour and a short drive to any number of deserted beaches, Bishop’s Bailiwick offers a taste of Nova Scotia living. There is a large back garden that is safe for playing. The guesthouse is about 100 meters up from the harbour where there is a boardwalk, a swimming area and park. The harbour is picturesque and very quiet. There is not a lot of traffic.

Take care not to be too captivated by the relaxed pace of life, beautiful scenery and convenience of town living, for once you have found Shelburne – Nova Scotia’s best-undiscovered destination – you won’t want to leave!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I have been to the cottage and I am quite familiar with the property.

Location

Bishop’s Bailiwick is located in the heart of Shelburne’s Historic District. This small area is architecturally unique with at least fifteen original wooden buildings dating back to the 17th Century.

Shelburne is half way along the Lighthouse Route - about an hour and 15 minutes from Yarmouth and about 2 hours from Halifax. An hour and a half from Lunenburg, and about 2 hours to Digby, it is a great location to use as a base from which to explore the South Shore. One of the great things about staying in town is that you can walk to everything - grocery shops, excellent restaurants, gift shops, etc. There is also a marina where you can take sailing lessons. The nearest beach is at the Sandy Point Lighthouse, which is about 10 minutes away. There are other beaches in the area that are worth exploring.
