Guest TestimonialsWe're both architects so it was a particular pleasure to stay in a cottage that we had seen published. Its beautiful - we wish more people were building contemporary cottages, and the site is gorgeous!
The serentity of Castaway Ocean Lodge is amazing! It reqally allows you to relax and get away from the daily grind.
We had a fantastic time. Such a relaxing atmosphere and inspiring architecture. Sand Hills Park was a great beach... Nice warm water. Thank you for sharing your cottage!
Thank you for sharing The Samuel Fairbanks House with us. We enjoyed Liverpool and meeting many old friends and new ones! Having your home as our base has been ideal with everything and more than expected for a home to home experience. Your decor is quite lovely and will recommend to friends. Thanks again.

DescriptionOriginally built in 1850 by Captain George McLean, as a carriage house for the neighbouring property, this attractive cottage has been completely renovated and restored, retaining its original charm and character, with wide pine floorboards and tall baseboards.A traditional floor plan, the house features two bedrooms and a 4-piece bathroom upstairs. The large master bedroom has a queen size bed, while the second bedroom has two twin beds. Both rooms have plenty of closet space, antique dressers and views of the garden and the harbour. Downstairs is comprised of a large fully equipped, eat-in kitchen, living room and separate dining room. A curio cupboard in the dining room displays beautiful Asian inspired dishes. While in the kitchen, another traditional built-in hutch has glassware and other decorative items. Simply decorated with antiques, hooked rugs, wall hangings, and other traditional Nova Scotia handiwork the house is a delightful tribute to Nova Scotia’s rich history. It is easy to imagine what it was like when its original owner – the one legged Sea Captain lived there. LocationCaptain McLean’s Carriage House is located in the picturesque harbour town of Shelburne on Nova Scotia’s famous Lighthouse Coast. It is exactly 100 of my steps from the front door of this delightful carriage house to the Shelburne Harbour waterfront.Shelburne Harbour is perhaps the most picturesque harbour in all of Nova Scotia. Over 16 kms long, this large, natural deep-water harbour is undeveloped and unspoiled by industry or shipping. The harbour supports a few small fishing villages, the town of Shelburne, some lobster fishing wharfs, a yacht club and a number of beautiful beaches. Across the harbour from the Carriage House is Islands Provincial Park – a protected park land of that is well treed and a favourite walk for locals. Because the cottage is located on this quiet harbour, the waterfront is suitable for launching a kayak. AmenitiesRates

We have been so comfortable and content in this historic and lovely setting, it will be very difficult to drive away. Shelburne is a delight for 'land-lubbers' seeking fresh seafood, good (super) accommodations and sightseeing - beaches, museums, period costumes, pleasant faces and helpful info everywhere. Farewell Nova Scotia. We'll miss you and not forget what we've learned about the folks who make this province great nor those who went before to build its fabulous towns."C.
