Description

Bright and sunny with the warmth of natural wood, this delightful property is everything you would imagine a Nova Scotia beach house to be.

Newly built in 2006, this 2,000 sq ft. architecturally designed house reflects the character and styling of a traditional New England Cape Cod home, while incorporating modern elements like open concept living spaces and floor to ceiling windows. Immediately upon entering, the eye is drawn to the expansive windows, which seem to bring the outdoors into this home. The open concept design includes living room, dining room and a dream kitchen with all new appliances. A utility room, the master bedroom and en-suite 3-piece bathroom make up the rest of the downstairs floor plan. Upstairs are two bedrooms, a second 4-piece bathroom and a sitting room with a smart TV and a view so spectacular that it is impossible to concentrate on anything else!

The beach house is equipped with three bedrooms. All with queen size beds, plenty of closet space and picture perfect views of the beach and ocean beyond. The beach house is equipped with two bathrooms featuring ocean inspired glass mosaic tiles and ergonomic fixtures. Luxurious towels are provided.

A two-sided wrap-around deck with screened gazebo and a boardwalk that traverses the sand dunes and leads onto the beach have the effect of further extending the living space to the outside. So whether you are dining alfresco on the deck or simply relaxing listening to the waves, it is hard to escape the overwhelming sense of peace and tranquility.

Louis Head Beach is a 3 kilometer (2 miles) white sandy beach with a shallow grade and gently rolling waves. The shallow ocean waters, warmed by the sun, make it an excellent beach for swimming, body surfing, sea kayaking, beachcombing or for simply relaxing!

For theatre, fine dining, museums, shops and other attractions, Shelburne is approximately 35 minutes away; while Lockeport with its beautiful Crescent Beach is a 15 minutes drive. Halifax is two hours, the UNESCO town of Lunenburg, Peggy's Cove and Whale watching in Digby are all pleasant day trips.

Location

Surrounded on three sides by sand and sea, Sanderling Beach House is located at the very end of Louis Head's spectacular white sandy beach. Scroll down for a MAP showing the location of this cottage. In May and June parts of the beach become a protected wildlife sanctuary, as it is here that the endangered Piping Plover return each year to nest and rear their young. During the breeding season dogs must be leashed and people are asked to avoid the designated nesting areas.

15 minutes away Lockeport is the closest town to this cottage. Lockeport is known for its Crescent Beach - a stunning scimitar of white sand approximately 1.5 km or 1 mile long.

Lockeport hosts a number of festivals and events during the summer months: Canada Day Celebrations, Harmony Bazaar Festival of Women in Song and the Lockeport Sea Derby. The Canada Day celebration is always on the first of July, Harmony Bazaar typically takes place on the last weekend in July while the Sea Derby is usually on the second weekend in August.

Crescent Beach Centre hosts the Sea Derby and a number of family events, such as the Beach Bash. Also worth investigating is Nova Scotia's only Registered Historic Streetscape, made up of five houses built by descendants of Jonathan Locke between 1836 and 1876. The houses offer an interesting cross section of historical architecture with excellent examples of Colonial, Georgian and Victorian styles. A walking-tour guidebook is available at the Little School Museum, which displays artifacts from early settlers.

25 minutes away, Shelburne is a charming and historic town set on a truly spectacular harbour. The harbour is unspoiled by industry or shipping and is used primarily for recreational activities like sailing and boating.

Shelburne hosts a number of festivals and events over the year: Lobster Festival , Founders Days, the Whirligig & Weathervane Festival, and Pumpkin Festival.

The Lobster Festival is usually held on the first weekend in June. The town wide yard sale is also on this same weekend. Founder's Days takes place on the third weekend in July. The Whirligig and the Pumpkin Festivals are fall festivals that take place on the third weekend in September and first weekend in October.

The Shelburne County and Dory Museums are worth visiting. When John Williams established his dory shop in 1880, it was part of a dory-building industry, which at its peak, included at least seven shops along the Shelburne waterfront. During the early part of this century the shop employed five to seven men and produced 350 dories per year. The museum has a workshop where Dories are still built to this day (albeit not in such large quantities!).
