Guest TestimonialsWe enjoyed our stay very much at the Castaway Ocean Lodge with a beautiful vista. The perfect place for an adirondack family to unwind for a week. This was our first visit to Nova Scotia. We viewed an eagle soaring! A perfect place for Kayaks and hot tub.Thank you Helen and John.
This place is incredible-"AH-MAZING!" The beach was beautiful, perfect for walking, soccer, golf, sand castles-something for everybody. We went for many kayaks around the lake and the ocean. And, of course Sanderling Beach House was a dream. We all enjoyed the colorful fiesta dishes-especially my dad who completely fell in love with them! It is very kind of you to share the slice of heaven with others.
Slateville Cottage is a charming and comfortable cottage. We found the area very pleasant, the beaches are stunning. We loved the many birds and the seals. Great place, great vacation.
Our first day here we open the curtains to be greeted by the view of a Great Blue Heron standing among the rocks of your little beach area! For our 20th anniversary what we were looking for was a place that offered quiet an seclusion away from very busy lives! Castaway Ocean Lodge was just the ticket! Quiet relaxing days of no particular schedule made this an anniversary to remember!

With a sloping 20 foot ceiling, this spacious minimalist master bedroom features a king size bed, a propane fireplace and an unconventional headboard – a 12 foot window that looks out onto a giant granite boulder. At night, small LED lights illuminate the lichen-encrusted surface and once again the edge between inside and outside living space is blurred.

© Sandy Lane Enterprises Ltd. DescriptionInspired by and sympathetic to its surroundings, Sai Beach House is a glass, concrete and metal sculpture. The building is striking with its sloping roof, concrete buttresses and vast glass windows. As with most of Brain MacKay-Lyons’ designs, the architecture explores the transition between interior and exterior space. Set on a rock-strewn promontory, with a wrap-around stone patio inlaid with granite and slate, the house seems to blend with its environment. Inside, the natural concrete floors, cherry paneling, radiant in-floor heating and two fireplaces bring warmth to the otherwise minimalist interior.Luxuriously appointed with modern furnishings, the house features an open concept living room, kitchen and dining area and a large master bedroom with en-suite master bath. The primary colours of the Ligne Roset living room furniture punctuate the room and offset the natural concrete and cherry paneling. Brian MacKay-Lyons also designed the locally built solid stainless steel table that grounds the dining room and creates a counter point to the honed black granite counter top in the kitchen. The stunning master bedroom features a king size bed, propane fireplace and an incredible 12’ horizontal window that frames the bed and becomes the headboard. Outside, a giant granite boulder provides the colour and texture for the headboard feature. The bathroom is a picture of simplicity. Walls of natural slate tiles, polished concrete floor and twin vessel sinks all contribute to the contemporary style. A two-way propane fireplace in the master suite adds an extravagant element that can be enjoyed from both the bath and the bed. Outside, a natural stone stairway leads down to a sandy beach below. There is a sandy cove and a half kilometer curved beach that are both very secluded. White sands and calm waters make for a delightful day on Sai beach. Close to Liverpool, with its restaurants, shops and other conveniences, Sai Beach House is nicely situated to explore the Evangeline Trail, Lighthouse Route and the South Shore. Within 15 minutes of Sai Beach House are two of Nova Scotia’s best beaches Carter’s Beaches at Port Mouton and the beach at Kejimkujik Seaside Adjunct in Port Jolli. Yarmouth is a 1.5 hours away; while Shelburne, Halifax, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, Peggy’s Cove and Digby are all pleasant day trips. The house has been featured on both the Discovery Travel Channel's Amazing Vacation Homes and in the November/December 2006 issue of Saltscapes - Canada’s East Coast Magazine. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I have personally been to the cottage and I am quite familiar with the property. 2012 Early Bird Special: Book this cottage by March 30, 2012 for a chance to win. LocationSai Beach House is located on a private 7-acre estate in East Port L’Hebert in Southwestern Nova Scotia. Set on a precipice overlooking the beach, the house enjoys ocean and waterfront vistas that are filtered through a carefully selected shield of trees. A natural stone stairway leads down to a sandy beach below. Approximately 25 km southwest of the Privateering town of Liverpool, Sai Beach House is close enough to civilization for convenience, but far away enough for privacy.AmenitiesRates

Both of us work in fairly high-stress jobs, and were looking for an extra-relaxing locale for a break. The house, setting and local places and people provided this beyond out hopes". Kerri & Tom, Toronto, ON"I have to say that the pictures of the house on the website did not tell the full story. My angel and I were here for a private weekend and simply said, the house was spectacular! It completely blew away our expectations. Thank you for giving us the opportunity and the surrounds and sharing with us your wonderful house. We've traveled the world over and truly, this has been one of the most wonderful places to stay. We'll be back for sure!" P & A Mathews, Montreal, QC "Truly enjoyed our two weeks at the jewel on the South Shore especially the opportunity to experience the design of McKay-Lyons. Prompted some interesting dialogue about our dream home. Great fun! Many thanks to Helen at Sandy Lane and Ralph and Sai for sharing their jewel" D. Barrett, ON Otherother stuff |
