I have a lingering memory of our week at Sanderling Beach House. It is of waking up in the master bedroom and gazing out the full length windows to the sun filtering through the fog and lining the beach grasses with silver. That's just one of many that I will treasure. The house was well designed, with clear views outside, room to be together and apart, a well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. We appreciated the colourful deck chairs (just looking at the range of shades was a treat onto itself) and the sand toys. Helen was very helpful and took a personal interest. The only drawback was the horrendous state of the 1.8 klm. road going in. It was so rough and rocky we felt it hindered our ability to go out and about exploring. Other than that, it was just perfect. We were 2 seniors, 1 adult, 1 child, staying three nights at Neptune’s Rise. The cottage is clean, modern, perfect amount of space for us. The upper level has a lovely kitchen, half bath and lounging area. There is a little perfect deck off of the kitchen to watch the ocean. Walking down a little path takes you to a pebbly beach to explore. We did not go into the ocean, but you certainly can. We saw deer and loads of heron.
There are two beaches we went to nearby: Cresent and Roseway. They were spectacular. Everything in Shelburne was closed tight due to Covid restrictions, but we shopped at Sobeys and enjoyed ice cream at Mo’s, which was fun.
The lower level of the cottage has two nice sized bedrooms and a huge bathroom. Loads of towels and comfy linens. There is a single trundle bed under the stairs. The blinds in both bedrooms did not keep the early sunrise out, so my daughter was early to rise, but that’s a normal summer issue. One bedroom only had a single window that opened so that could get quite warm. Bring a fan.
The breeze off of the ocean was amazing. There was loads of fun crafts and games. The house was comfortable, very private and a perfect getaway for us. We did not use the paddle boards as I could not find ankle straps for them. There was a big drawer of life jackets which was nice.
Highly recommended. The Beach Heaven cottage is an endearing and beautiful space indoors and outdoors, designed for your wellness. The photos look convincing, but it is even better in person.
Words can’t do justice to this space. But a week surrounded the beauty of sand and sea and time spent with my loved ones in this lovely home was energizing and rejuvenating and I would return again and again.
It is everything it claims to be (clean, modern, amazing location just a hop away to the shoreline, breathtaking views), and much more.

GF side note: The fish and chips restaurant flier on the fridge has excellent gluten free fish and chips and fish cakes. We enjoyed our stay at the rustic and quaint Sea Star cottage in July. There was more than enough room for our family of five. Importantly, the Wi-Fi worked well for our kids :) Having laundry and all the amenities of a regular home made our stay comfortable. The location is very quiet, and the grounds around the home are almost park-like, with mature apple trees and a well-kept lawn. There is a nice walk down the pathway through the back field to the rocky shoreline. The night skies were full of bright stars; I was able to photograph the Milky Way with ease.
Carter's Beach is an easy 10-minute walk down the road, but the area is also central to other beautiful beaches, with shopping (and a great skatepark) in Liverpool, only 15 minutes' drive away. Locally we had a good take-out dinner from the Seascape restaurant just down the road.
Overall our stay was very enjoyable, and I would not hesitate to recommend it as a perfect vacation home for a family. |
