Guest Testimonials

Thank you for a wonderful stay in your beautiful cottage.  The views are breathtaking and we really appreciated the fully equipped kitchen.  We hope to be back to this area very, very soon.

A bit of heaven in Nova Scotia
"Orchard Point" is a total escape from the rapid pace of life today. Beauty, privacy, and tranquility describe the experience. The home is tastefully appointed, clean, and very comfortable. We found everything we needed. Every sunrise and sunset made us reach for our cameras. We enjoyed exploring the pristine coast. Another benefit was the relative proximity of Shelburne with excellent places to eat and a full supermarket. Overall, we had one of the most relaxing vacations ever and would surely go back.

Perfect getaway location for relaxation
My husband and I had a wonderful week at Red Head Retreat. it was completely peaceful with only the sounds of gulls, waves on stone at the foot of the bluff and intermittent bird song. The house is spacious, comfortably furnished and open and airy with lots of natural light. The back deck is perfect for enjoying a quiet coffee in the mornings with dawn over the trees and In August it gets full shade in the afternoon, which makes it perfect for lolling in the Adirondack chairs with books and a cold drink. And there always seemed to be a refreshing breeze off the ocean. This was most welcome because we were there during a hot, humid week. But even the foggy mornings seemed special in that house. Alerted by the management company and a previous guest's post, we limited our time on the large back lawn and on woodland trails in the region due to ticks. We took extra medication precautions for our dog and checked her and each other after each excursion. Happy to report that we didn't see a tick all week! But we did see lots of deer. The back lawn area seemed to be an early morning and evening gathering place. At dusk on one day we counted 12 does and fawns of assorted sizes (see photo). We also saw plenty of rabbits, and pheasants, plus a beaver or muskrat by the causeway on the approach road. We are familiar with Nova Scotia's south shore and like to choose a base from which to explore by car and at times by bike or foot. Red Head Retreat is our favourite rental so far. There is no direct beach access from the house but many beautiful beaches - usually very sparsely peopled - within a short driving distance. We also treated ourselves to a final night dinner out at the Charlotte Lane in Shelburne. it was our fourth visit to the restaurant over the past decade and it never disappoints. But a note to other guests who might be inclined to give it a try - do make a reservation. We saw several tourists walk in and be disappointed the evening we were there. Altogether, a lovely week. Thank you!

We had a wonderful time here in Nova Scotia. We tried swimming at Crescent Beach - way too cold but found some warm water for the kids to enjoy at Roseway Beach. Our son enjoyed catching mackerel off the pier and our daughter enjoyed picking up sea shells off the shore line. Thanks a million for a great holiday.

Description

Neptunes Rise is a newly built, contemporary cottage in a picturesque woodland setting with miles of unspoiled oceanfront at the doorstep.

Constructed over the last 10 years, Neptunes Rise has a sleek, crisp design that makes the most of its unique hillside setting. Upside down, with the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living space upstairs, the house capitalizes on its private location and glorious sunset ocean views.

Set up for socializing, the upper floor is an open concept living space with a fully equipped beautiful kitchen, a large dining table, and comfortable lounge seating. Large windows flood the space with light, while a working wood stove creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The lower level has two queen size bedrooms, both of which have patio doors that lead out onto a stone patio. The house is family friendly with a children's sleeping nook under the stairs with a pull out trundle bed and a selection of children's toys and books. Also on the lower level is a large 3 piece bathroom with walk in shower and laundry facilities.

Location

Neptunes Rise is located on the western shore of Jordan Bay in the secluded coastal community of Enslows Point. Nestled in mature pines, with remnants of an old apple orchard, the grounds are scattered with walking trails and dotted with old stone walls making a hike through the property an adventure in itself. From the cottage a footpath leads to the rocky beach where you can launch one of the cottages stand up paddle boards and explore the bay. At night, this is the perfect spot for a beach bonfire under the stars.

10 minutes away, Shelburne is the nearest town. Here you will find a grocery store, restaurants, theatre, craft brewery and museums.

For outdoor activities, the nearest beach is the Sandy Point Lighthouse Beach. A little further along the shore are Louis Head Beach and Crescent Beach. If you want to get out onto the water, Candlebox Kayaking offers a wide range of kayak tours. For passionate surfers, Southwest Nova Scotia has a surprising number of world class surfing spots: check out Round Bay Beach or Western Head Beach near Liverpool.

Lunenburg, Chester and Mahone Bay are all within easy day trip distance. It is a 2-hour drive to Halifax International Airport and 1.5 hours to the ferry terminal in Yarmouth.

Guestbook

"We loved our stay at Neptune's Rise. The location was quiet and scenic. Being right on the bay we enjoyed paddle boarding, searching for sea glass, and even swimming. Brrrr!

Communicating with the host was helpful and always prompt.

The house is lovely, was clean, and had everything we needed. We would highly recommend staying here."

Deidre, Lebanon, NH, 2022

"Overall stay was well beyond our expectations. The location was amazing the house was wonderful the walks on shore you'll never forget. Lots to keep the little ones busy which we werent expecting at all. Like coloring books, toys, blocks even playdoh etc... which really helped. Everything was clean and perfect. Definitely would stay again. No complaints at all. Perfect for the family."

Jen, 2022

"Gorgeous place. The photos are beautiful but it's even better in person. Completely private and surrounded by nature, you'll drink your coffee next to the tree tops. We absolutely loved our stay."

Emily, Halifax, Canada, 2020

"I would book another stay here in a heartbeat. We spent a lot of our trip on the porch off the kitchen, watching seals, deer, eagles, and osprey go by. My son stayed busy with the toys and books. It's a totally private space, yet minutes from Shelburne and not far from many beautiful destinations on the south shore. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is well appointed, and the property is lovely."

Lynn, Dartmouth, Canada, 2020

"We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. The location and house are even better in person. The house was very clean when we arrived and had everything we needed. It is perfectly located and close to many beaches. We were thrilled by how private the property was. We really enjoyed morning coffees on the deck looking at the water. We had our 2 year old daughter with us and the house was very well equipped for her. That was a lovely surprise. We would highly recommend staying here and look forward to going back!"

Carolyn, Hammonds Plains, Canada, 2020

"Unique cottage design with lots of windows & a super kitchen. Ocean view and beach front make a great place to kayak, walk and an evening fire. Private & quiet, & only 5 min drive from Shelburne."

Paul, Nova Scotia, Canada, 2020
