Both of us work in fairly high stress jobs and were looking for an extra-relaxing locale for a break. The cottage, setting and local places and people provided this behond our hopes.
What a great spot. We enjoyed a relaxing weekend at Castaway Ocean Lodge. The hot tub is a nice touch. We hope to be back sometime in the near future.
This place is incredible-"AH-MAZING!" The beach was beautiful, perfect for walking, soccer, golf, sand castles-something for everybody. We went for many kayaks around the lake and the ocean. And, of course Sanderling Beach House was a dream. We all enjoyed the colorful fiesta dishes-especially my dad who completely fell in love with them! It is very kind of you to share the slice of heaven with others.
Your own world
It's the third time I've stayed in this snug little house on its very own bay. Ragged Island Retreat is like a ship on the sandy, tidal lake -- a short kayak trip from the crashing ocean beach at Hemeons Head, and along a strip of land protected by the Nature Conservancy. I could watch the changing waters, and birds overhead, all day. Cool mists for evening walks and sun-heated swimming in the deep salt water pools of the "lake" are both amazing. This area is so beautiful -- rural and wild, yet a short drive from the town of Lockeport and the beautiful harbor of Shelburne, and the long sand beach at Louis Head. |
Lunenburg
Sam, Max and I spent a day in Lunenburg exploring the Fisheries Museum and the harbour front.

This rocking Dory was a huge hit with my two young fishermen.
The Bluenose II is a replica of the famous Bluenose Schooner - the celebrated racing ship and hard-working fishing vessel, that held the International Fisherman's Trophy for 17 years in a row. (1921-1938)
DescriptionLunenburg is one of the best surviving examples of a planned British colonial settlement in North America. Founded and established in 1753, the town is named in honour of the Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg who later became King George II of England in 1727. Lunenburg has retained its original layout and overall appearance, based on a rectangular grid pattern drawn up in the home country. The plans were created without regard to local topography, which is why Lunenburg's streets are always straight and sometimes dizzyingly steep. If you are of limited mobility or are pushing a heavy stroller, it may be too much for you. Historic homes and buildings that date back to the 1700s have been renovated and now house restaurants, shops and galleries. The extraordinary preservation of the Town's architecture earned it the designation of an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. There is plenty to do in Lunenburg. Go for a horse and buggy ride around the town or take a walking tour; have a lobster lunch or take a fishing charter. Make sure you set aside time to visit the Fisheries Museum. There are plenty of excellent restaurants.LocationLunenburg is approximately an hour and a half drive from Shelburne (125 km/78 miles) a 50 minute drive from Liverpool (60 km/38 miles) and an hour and 15 minutes from Halifax (95 km/60 miles).AddressLunenburgGoogle Map |
