Guest Testimonials

Thank you for sharing your comfortable home with us. Even on cloudy days, the house always felt bright and airy, especially the fantastic sun room. We appreciated the tide clock as going to the beach became the center of our days here. Such a lovely place.

What a lovey cottage with a spectacular view! The kids had a great time picking blueberries, taking a walk down to the wharf and amazing rocks. Carter's Beach made for a fun day. I loved searching for sand dollars and exploring. A wonderful way to spend a long weekend!

We have enjoyed a very relaxing week in Moose Harbour Cottage. It was a great base for us to explore Nova Scotia and we have got lots of good memiories and photos to take home with us.  You have managed to make our first trip to Canada amazing and we are already planning when we might be able to come back.

Description

Port Medway is a picturesque fishing village overlooking the Medway Harbour.

Originally called  “Port Moltare” by French pioneers.  In 1760, English speaking fishermen settled in the area; changed the name to Port Medway and helped to develop the village into a thriving shipping community.  Cargoes of salted and dried fish were shipped to the United States, Caribbean and South America.  Lumber from the sawmills of Greenfield, Charleston and Mill Village were loaded on ships and sailed to foreign ports.  There were approximately twenty families resident in the settlement who erected a Baptist Meeting House and a schoolhouse.   Both of these buildings have been preserved and serve important functions in the village.

Today the town is a vibrant community that supports a local fishing industry and plays host to an annual Literary festival.  The Port Medway Readers’ Festival was founded in 2002 by Cynthia Wine and Philip Slayton continuing the tradition of the “Tennysonian Reading Circle”, started by the ladies of Port Medway in 1903.  Past authors include Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje, Linden McIntyre, Donna Morrissey and many other award-winning writers reading from their latest works.   The festival takes place during the months of July and August with a variety of readings all held at the Old Meeting House – the original Baptist Meeting House.

The original Medway Head Lighthouse has been preserved and is now a charming Lighthouse Park with a picnic area, walking paths and an exhibit space.
