The house is perfect; the beach even more so. The seals were elusive but we did manage to see them every day. We made some day trips, had some beach dys, water was frigid, and managed a round of golf at River Hills in Clyde River. On the front 9, the view of the river is beautiful but it was the scenery on the 11th and 15th that was breath taking. We loved our stay here, the views, the isolation of the cottage and the friendliness of the people we have encountered on our travels.
The cottage, the area and Nova Scotia are all fantastic! One week was not enough. The deer visited everyday and appeared to be watching us more than we were watching them. Thank you for sharing this cozy and comfortable home.
We enjoyed our stay at the rustic and quaint Sea Star cottage in July. There was more than enough room for our family of five. Importantly, the Wi-Fi worked well for our kids :) Having laundry and all the amenities of a regular home made our stay comfortable. The location is very quiet, and the grounds around the home are almost park-like, with mature apple trees and a well-kept lawn. There is a nice walk down the pathway through the back field to the rocky shoreline. The night skies were full of bright stars; I was able to photograph the Milky Way with ease.
Carter's Beach is an easy 10-minute walk down the road, but the area is also central to other beautiful beaches, with shopping (and a great skatepark) in Liverpool, only 15 minutes' drive away. Locally we had a good take-out dinner from the Seascape restaurant just down the road.
Overall our stay was very enjoyable, and I would not hesitate to recommend it as a perfect vacation home for a family. Castaway Ocean Lodge was a perfect location for exploring the South Shore. The log cabin far exceeded our expectatons. We were very comfortable here. We will definetly be back. We will miss the little critters that entertained us while we enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck. Next year we will book 2 weeks. Thanks for sharing this wonderful place with us.

LockeportDescriptionWith a population of under seven hundred people, Lockeport is a small town in a spectacular setting. Settled in the 1700's, the town relies on the fishing industry for its livelihood. Numerous wharves provide plenty of photographic opportunities of working boats as well as a chance to talk to some of the hardy folk that fish on them. The long stretch of white sand that forms the outer edge of Lockeport's causeway is better known as Crescent Beach. At one end of the beach is the Crescent Beach Centre. With a tourist information center, snack bar, washrooms and gift shop, the Centre is a welcome pit stop during a full day on this lively kid-friendly beach. Crescent Beach Centre organizes a number of different activities: Beach parties, Sand Scultpure contests, and an annual Sea Derby. For the history buff - Nova Scotia's only Registered Historic Streetscape is worth investigating. Made up of five houses built by descendants of Jonathan Locke between 1836 and 1876, the houses offer an interesting cross section of historical architecture with excellent examples of Colonial, Georgian and Victorian styles. A walking-tour guidebook is available at the Little School Museum. The museum has in its collection a variety of artifacts relating to early life in the community, a replica of an early school room and a marine room. If you are coming with children and don't want to spend the whole day on the beach, there is a great playground in the centre of town. AddressLockeport, Nova ScotiaGoogle Map |
