Amazing week - all of the comforts of home in a beautiful setting

From the moment we arrived and saw the we knew our one week stay here would be memorable. Our two children lov Castaway Ocean Lodgeed the hot tub, the board games, exploring the beach and looking at birds and fishing boats in the bay with the binoculars. We loved the clean and comfortable space, the fully stocked kitchen (it even has sharp knives - something I've never seen in a rental before!), the views, the comfortable beds, the deck chairs and so much more. Highly recommend!

Perfect House, Perfect Place

Our second time at Sanderling Beach House, and we couldn't dream for a better place. We love Nova Scotia for the untouched nature, and unspoiled beaches, lakes, and forest, but high standard accommodations are some times hard to find. Sanderling beach house is the best place we could have: charming, on the edge of the Ocean, tasteful, functional, very well appointed, clean. A wonderful feeling of home pervades the house. The kitchen is fully equipped, ready for baking, cooking, BBQing, etc. The 3 bedrooms are large, with comfy beds. The beach is long with fine silver sand, and hardly anybody is ever around. Our children and ourselves spent wonderful days playing and swimming (yes, swimming!). The night skies are among the most beautiful and starry in the whole planet! UNESCO's Starlight Foundation declared the area part of North America's first Starlight Preserve, on top of the designation as a protected biosphere!

Fantastic holiday house

Sanderling Beach House is perfect, just as it is described. It's furnished and equipped to a very high standard and has everything you could need, a real home from home (except this home sits on the very edge of the perfect beach!). I can't recommend this beach house highly enough, we had a great time.

Description

With a population of under seven hundred people, Lockeport is a small town in a spectacular setting. Settled in the 1700's, the town relies on the fishing industry for its livelihood. Numerous wharves provide plenty of photographic opportunities of working boats as well as a chance to talk to some of the hardy folk that fish on them.

The long stretch of white sand that forms the outer edge of Lockeport's causeway is better known as Crescent Beach. At one end of the beach is the Crescent Beach Centre. With a tourist information center, snack bar, washrooms and gift shop, the Centre is a welcome pit stop during a full day on this lively kid-friendly beach.

Crescent Beach Centre organizes a number of different activities: Beach parties, Sand Scultpure contests, and an annual Sea Derby.

For the history buff - Nova Scotia's only Registered Historic Streetscape is worth investigating. Made up of five houses built by descendants of Jonathan Locke between 1836 and 1876, the houses offer an interesting cross section of historical architecture with excellent examples of Colonial, Georgian and Victorian styles. A walking-tour guidebook is available at the Little School Museum. The museum has in its collection a variety of artifacts relating to early life in the community, a replica of an early school room and a marine room.

If you are coming with children and don't want to spend the whole day on the beach, there is a great playground in the centre of town.
