Guest Testimonials

This place is incredible-"AH-MAZING!" The beach was beautiful, perfect for walking, soccer, golf, sand castles-something for everybody. We went for many kayaks around the lake and the ocean. And, of course Sanderling Beach House was a dream. We all enjoyed the colorful fiesta dishes-especially my dad who completely fell in love with them! It is very kind of you to share the slice of heaven with others.

What a beautiful spot! The hosts have thought of everything. Fully equipped kitchen, beautiful decor, spectacular view. We would stay at Summerset Cottage again and again. Highly recommended!!

Our last day at the cottage how the time has flown! We know of the village of West Green Harbor, smells of the sea, cries of the sea gulls, the lobster pots drying in the sun, the bold colours of the lupins swaying along the road, the gentle breeze fades into the distance as we fly home - we leave with fond memories of the soft rhythm of life in Nova Scotia.  The house and location is tranquil, restful and easy on the soul. We end this journey with a smile and leave a little of ourselves behind.

Lunenburg

Sam, Max and I spent a day in Lunenburg exploring the Fisheries Museum and the harbour front.
Tall Ships are moored in Lunenburg.
This rocking Dory was a huge hit with my two young fishermen.
The Bluenose II is a replica of the famous Bluenose Schooner - the celebrated racing ship and hard-working fishing vessel, that held the International Fisherman's Trophy for 17 years in a row. (1921-1938)

Description

Lunenburg is one of the best surviving examples of a planned British colonial settlement in North America. Founded and established in 1753, the town is named in honour of the Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg who later became King George II of England in 1727. Lunenburg has retained its original layout and overall appearance, based on a rectangular grid pattern drawn up in the home country. The plans were created without regard to local topography, which is why Lunenburg's streets are always straight and sometimes dizzyingly steep. If you are of limited mobility or are pushing a heavy stroller, it may be too much for you. Historic homes and buildings that date back to the 1700s have been renovated and now house restaurants, shops and galleries. The extraordinary preservation of the Town's architecture earned it the designation of an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. There is plenty to do in Lunenburg. Go for a horse and buggy ride around the town or take a walking tour; have a lobster lunch or take a fishing charter. Make sure you set aside time to visit the Fisheries Museum. There are plenty of excellent restaurants.

Location

Lunenburg is approximately an hour and a half drive from Shelburne (125 km/78 miles) a 50 minute drive from Liverpool (60 km/38 miles) and an hour and 15 minutes from Halifax (95 km/60 miles).
