This 19th Century sea captain's haven has been lovingly renovated and restored by an artist and historic preservationist, husband and wife team.

By combining modern touches and conveniences with traditional features this dedicated couple has managed to breathe new life into this historic oceanfront vacation rental home.

The design tastefully blends old and new architectural elements, art and furnishings to create an environment rich in character, charm, texture, and comfort. The palate of the home is a simple harmony of warm wood tones and crisp whitewashed plaster with calming ocean touches throughout. The ground floor has a living room, dining room, custom soapstone and wood kitchen with breakfast dinette, a laundry, and full bath with stone and tile walk-in shower. The upper level has a full bath with claw foot soaking tub and two bedrooms to sleep four. There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom and a double bed in guest room.

Location

Orchard Point Cottage is located on a bold Atlantic headland just six miles East of the historic port town of Shelburne on Nova Scotia's scenic South Shore. Close enough to town for shopping, restaurants, and visits to the museums, theater and festival venues; the cottage is far enough away to guarantee seclusion.

Standing atop a long shoreward meadow, Orchard Point Cottage offers dramatic ocean vistas and wildlife viewings from every window - the welcoming sparkle of pristine Jordan Bay to the north and east, the thrill of open Atlantic surf to the south, and a South Shore picture-postcard cove to the west. This awe-inspiring setting was celebrated by writer, poet and naturalist Howard T. Walden's beautifully written "Anchorage Northeast: The story of one man's quest for the unspoiled bounties of nature and their discovery on a stretch of Nova Scotian Coast."

"The house was well taken care of, renovated, and modernized. As advertised, it is very private and secluded. Standing on the shore of the ocean, you get to fall asleep to the sound of waves. It is also conveniently located only 15 min from downtown Shelburne, where you can explore the local museums, breweries, and great dining places! If you're a bit more adventurous, 45 min in either direction you will find some of the best beaches in the province (Hawk Point & Carter's Beach) and other hidden gems! Cell reception was hit and miss on the entire peninsula, but WiFi at the house was very good, we were able to stream Netflix without any lag! The host is very responsive and helpful! Overall, a great experience!"

"Orchard point exceeded our expectations!! We had such an outstanding two-week stay. We hope to return for years to come. We chose this place to isolate (as per NS covid rules) with our 4 month old baby. We had so much room to roam safely, lots of quiet, serene rocky shore to explore, and didn't see anyone except for the neighbour once or twice. It was truly perfect! There were tons of amenities, games to play, noodles for floating in the ocean, and anything else you might need on a beach vacation. Falling asleep to the ocean waves and waking to the perfectly calm water and sometimes even the sunrise was amazing, and the stars were spectacular every night! We couldn't recommend this place enough."
