5 of us stayed at Ragged Island Retreat while we were in quarantine and it was perfect. Lots of space to roam the property, we hardly ever saw anyone except the odd person clamming, or driving a truck down the road. The accommodations were simple but very comfortable, loved all the windows and the sunrises were AMAZING! Would definitely recommend if you are looking to get away from the business. We had a wonderful time. The view was spectacular. We enjoyed hearing and seeing the seals from the deck of the cottage. We visited Shelburne and Lockeport a couple of times and visited Kejimkujik (the seaside adjunct as well as the park). We even took a trip up to Upper Clements Park. All in all, a great vacation. Thanks.
The Francis Louis House was great! We drove up to Durham Lane and down to what's known as the
old wharf. We took a lovely walk along that fabulous beach-left toward the mouth of the harbor. A great place to visit at low tide. Afterwards we rode down to the end of St. Catherine's River Road, stopping to view the marsh before the big curve near the end of the road. We saw an adult bald eagle atop one of the scraggly tall spruces! What a wonderful getaway. It was a perfect week. Our family enjoyed the beach and all the extra parks so close. Thank you for a great stay.

Carters BeachDescriptionOne of the nicest beach in the Liverpool area, Carter's beach is actually three beaches in one - all the beaches have slightly different orientations, so it is always possible to find a sunny spot out of the wind. The first beach you come to is a gentle crescent beach that is fairly shallow. It is boarded by sand dunes along the back. The next beach is a little rougher - it has a river that runs through it that is tidal. It is much easier to cross at low tide when it is about ankle deep that at high tide when it is waist deep. It is not a problem, but is definitely something to watch. When we went to the beach with our children (1 and 4) we played a lot in this river at low tide as the water was warmer and there were no waves. We love this beach.John and I went to Carter's beach on Canada Day in 2001. We were amazed. It looked like we had traveled thousands of miles to the Caribbean - the sand was white and the water turquoise. The illusion was broken when we dipped our toes into the ocean and realized that yes we were still in Canada! The water was not freezing, but it definitely was not tropical! LocationSea Star Cottage and Harbour Tide House in Port Mouton are the closest cottages to this beach.AddressPort Mouton, NSGoogle Map |
