Everything was perfect. I enjoyed your home on the beach!
We have both had a wonderful time staying in your beatiful house in Liverpool. The investments you have made in time and care to furnishing and decorating the house have been very much appreciated. This certainly is a much different place to the Liverpool we have in our country!
Perfect getaway location for relaxation
My husband and I had a wonderful week at Red Head Retreat. it was completely peaceful with only the sounds of gulls, waves on stone at the foot of the bluff and intermittent bird song. The house is spacious, comfortably furnished and open and airy with lots of natural light. The back deck is perfect for enjoying a quiet coffee in the mornings with dawn over the trees and In August it gets full shade in the afternoon, which makes it perfect for lolling in the Adirondack chairs with books and a cold drink. And there always seemed to be a refreshing breeze off the ocean. This was most welcome because we were there during a hot, humid week. But even the foggy mornings seemed special in that house. Alerted by the management company and a previous guest's post, we limited our time on the large back lawn and on woodland trails in the region due to ticks. We took extra medication precautions for our dog and checked her and each other after each excursion. Happy to report that we didn't see a tick all week! But we did see lots of deer. The back lawn area seemed to be an early morning and evening gathering place. At dusk on one day we counted 12 does and fawns of assorted sizes (see photo). We also saw plenty of rabbits, and pheasants, plus a beaver or muskrat by the causeway on the approach road. We are familiar with Nova Scotia's south shore and like to choose a base from which to explore by car and at times by bike or foot. Red Head Retreat is our favourite rental so far. There is no direct beach access from the house but many beautiful beaches - usually very sparsely peopled - within a short driving distance. We also treated ourselves to a final night dinner out at the Charlotte Lane in Shelburne. it was our fourth visit to the restaurant over the past decade and it never disappoints. But a note to other guests who might be inclined to give it a try - do make a reservation. We saw several tourists walk in and be disappointed the evening we were there. Altogether, a lovely week. Thank you! Serenity at its best!
We fell in love with the area immediately! Sanderling Beach House has every convenience anyone could need for a perfect stay...and then some! The kitchen is fully equipped with small appliances, specialty utensils, cookware and dinnerware. There is plenty of room to accommodate more than 4 people at mealtime, sitting around the large centre island or at the dining/kitchen table. The rooms are comfortably equipped with quilts and extra blankets, if needed. We especially liked being able to BBQ at the house in the screened-in sunroom. There are plenty of Muskoka chairs to sit and laze around the deck or down at the beach. The white sand beach is magnificent! We walked it many times each day and felt like it was our own private beach. Very few people venture down to this area of beach from the public beach area, even though it is the best, in my opinion. It has the best view, clearest water, and no rocks. The tide comes in and out frequently so there were many sandbars for us to walk on and large ‘puddles’ to wade in. The water was quite cold, so we did not spend a lot of time in the ocean itself…we preferred the sun-warmed ‘puddles’ that were formed by the tide. (There were many jellyfish in the area, as well.) We thoroughly enjoyed the Beach House and were able to truly relax! We did boost our data plan so that family members could access email, etc., and then accessed Wi-fi when we headed into town, for groceries, etc. It was nice not feeling the need to be connected on our vacation. Thank you for the excellent accommodations! |

Guestbook"We enjoyed our stay at the rustic and quaint Sea star cottage in July. There was more than enough room for our family of five. Importantly, the Wi-Fi worked well for our kids :) Having laundry and all the amenities of a regular home made our stay comfortable. The location is very quiet, and the grounds around the home are almost park-like, with mature apple trees and a well-kept lawn. There is a nice walk down the pathway through the back field to the rocky shoreline. The night skies were full of bright stars; I was able to photograph the Milky Way with ease.Carter's Beach is an easy 10-minute walk down the road, but the area is also central to other beautiful beaches, with shopping (and a great skate park) in Liverpool, only 15 minutes' drive away. Locally we had a good take-out dinner from the Seascape restaurant just down the road. Overall our stay was very enjoyable, and I would not hesitate to recommend it as a perfect vacation home for a family." Ian & Jessica, Halifax, Canada |
