Perfect stay, so peaceful and relaxing
We just had our second stay in this Castaway Ocean Lodge and it was just as good as the first. We bought some friends along the second time, and they enjoyed the cabin and Nova Scotia as much as us. The hot tub is fantastic and we were in it every day, they had upgraded it to a new one second time around, which was even better. There are robes provided in the cabin to make full use of it even when it’s a little chilly in the evenings. It’s so peaceful and quiet, with no neighbours overlooking you, a really good place to chill out. We made use of the fire pit outside and the kayaks to explore. The first time we went there were some seals we spotted in the water nearby while were kayaking. We ended up travelling around in the good weather, up to the wineries in the Annapolis Valley, to Luneburg and beautiful nearby Shelburne (Charlotte Lane Cafe is worth checking out the food is amazing). On the rainy days we enjoyed relaxing in front of the log fire, cooking in the very well equipped kitchen and playing the many board games left for use in the cabin. The cabin is really homey and comfortable; there is everything you could ever need. I can’t wait to go back again.

.. and relax! The beach house of dreams.
If you want to have a one mile sandy beach virtually to oneself then this is the beach house for you. Once the rough track from the road has been negotiated the peace and remoteness of Sanderling Beach House comes into it’s own. Don't stay if you want TV and Wi-Fi; this is a place to relax, stroll down your own boardwalk to the shore, paddle in the tea-brown waters where the sea mixes with Sable river estuary, beach comb for sand dollars, listen to the siffling of the piping plovers. Comfortable beds and sofas enable relaxation inside the house too; put on some coffee, pull up an Adirondack chair and watch the cormorants fishing offshore. There is good food and drink in Shelburne and Lockeport and lovely places to visit along the South Shore. Quite pricy for just two but would be good value if filled with a young family.

Rissers Beach

A day on Rissers beach is a treat for the whole family! Sam spent the day collecting water to fill the moat of his sandcastle.
Rissers Beach is beautiful natural beach with a long white stretch of sand kept in place by sand dunes and pines. A popular local beach and camp ground, the beach always has something going on.
Max thoroughly enjoyed himself at Rissers Beach, soaking wet and covered in sand, he spent the day running in and out of the water, exploring the rock pools and building sand castles. It was a sad moment when we had to leave!
Sam and Max and I took a walk through the salt marsh along the boardwalk. This marsh habitat is a haven for a wide range of plants and animals. We were on the look out for colourful insects and birds. We were not disappointed!
