Guest Testimonials

My husband and I take a vacation every year on our anniversary!! I had suggested going to Nova Scotia because neither of us have ever been there before and we both have always wanted to go!! I found Castaway Ocean Lodge on Home away website. My husband and I love log cabin homes and try to rent them when we have vacations!! The pictures of the cabin looked beautiful and we were not disappointed. We found it very easy to find. We came upon the cabin, we both said WOW at the same time!! The cabin was beautiful inside and out! This vacation was about relaxing, no agenda!! Each day, I awoke early in the morning, made coffee, and sat outside on the deck, reading, drinking coffee and enjoying the beautiful ocean views!! I took pictures every day of the sunset looking over the ocean!! It was absolutely breathtaking! The cabin had everything you needed for amenities. We travelled to surrounding communities of Shelburne, Liverpool, Barrington and Halifax! I would recommend this cabin for anyone who wants tranquility, serenity and a peaceful vacation!!

 Your own world
It's the third time I've stayed in this snug little house on its very own bay. Ragged Island Retreat is like a ship on the sandy, tidal lake -- a short kayak trip from the crashing ocean beach at Hemeons Head, and along a strip of land protected by the Nature Conservancy. I could watch the changing waters, and birds overhead, all day. Cool mists for evening walks and sun-heated swimming in the deep salt water pools of the "lake" are both amazing. This area is so beautiful -- rural and wild, yet a short drive from the town of Lockeport and the beautiful harbor of Shelburne, and the long sand beach at Louis Head.

 Just Perfect !!!
My husband and I were absolutely thrilled with Orchard Point. It was so lovely, with a stunning setting and a perfect location. The cottage itself was steeped in history but with all the modern amenities you expect.

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely cottage with us.  Shelburne is a delightful town. We really enjoyed the museums. Thanks! We'll be back!

Rissers Beach

A day on Rissers beach is a treat for the whole family! Sam spent the day collecting water to fill the moat of his sandcastle.
Rissers Beach is beautiful natural beach with a long white stretch of sand kept in place by sand dunes and pines. A popular local beach and camp ground, the beach always has something going on.
Max thoroughly enjoyed himself at Rissers Beach, soaking wet and covered in sand, he spent the day running in and out of the water, exploring the rock pools and building sand castles. It was a sad moment when we had to leave!
Sam and Max and I took a walk through the salt marsh along the boardwalk. This marsh habitat is a haven for a wide range of plants and animals. We were on the look out for colourful insects and birds. We were not disappointed!
